General Motors & Ford-It?s the cars ?Stupid? part II

Copyright 2006 Richard Stoyeck

We've already stated our belief that that 2007 will see Americans buying several hundred thousand less cars than they will purchase in 2006. We are looking for 16.8 million vehicle sales this year. Let's get into the numbers, and see what the implications are. When you, or I buy a car for our personal use, we pay on average about $25,000 per car. The car rental companies in the United States purchase more cars than any other group.

They buy American cars, and pay an average of $15,000 per car. We don't see any big profits from this market segment.

Let's look at the dealerships, and sort out how the Japanese do against the Americans. A Chrysler dealer last year on average sold about 225 cars. If you were a Ford dealer, you averaged almost 700 cars per dealer. GM's Chevrolet dealerships came in under 650 cars per dealer.

Would you be surprised to learn that Toyota sold more than 1600 cars per dealership last year? General Motors & Ford-It?s the cars ?Stupid? part II

New Line up of Cars Relies on Microsoft

A recent study conducted by the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) revealed that automakers are working together in small clusters to gain faster communication about their upcoming innovative cars. In order to do so, they use different information channels like web conferencing and other ways to effect live conversations through the Internet. By doing this, the manufacturers can secure the quality of product and customer awareness in a snap.

The study is entitled Key Factors that Enable Product Development: An Investigation of Creating Great Products. According to said study, the automakers are demonstrating greater passion by turning to collaborative product development (CPD) technique through the help of Microsoft solutions. They are adopting these solutions to serve as catalyst to gain more advantage in the automotive world.

Buying Cars at Live Auctions Better than Buying Online for Some Consumers Live Auto Auction Rules Easier to Follow

Dublin, CA (ContentDesk) January 23, 2006 -- While big-name online auto auction sites boast huge inventories and the potential for amazing deals, theyre certainly not for everyone, according to the CEO of a leading live auction company in the San Francisco area.Alameda County Auction CEO Adel Saadeh said that when prominent ecommerce sites started selling automobiles online, many in his industry were afraid no one would buy a car at auctions done their way. It was nerve racking at first, he admits. We thought it was the end of an era for us.But the fear was short lived, and today Alameda County Auction is more successful than ever. People still like the fact that they can buy a car at auctions after getting a hands-on preview beforehand, Saadeh said. That first-hand look is something you just cant get online, no matter how good the pictures.Even though the amount of Americans shopping online continues to rise, many, particularly older Americans, have a so-called comfort threshold...

Sports Cars Offer High Gas Mileage Cure for the SUV Blues

Fort Collins, CO (ContentDesk) May 27, 2006 -- Several sporty, high-performance automobiles such as the Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche Boxster and Lotus Elise can get 28 or 29 miles per gallon on the highway according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), making sports cars a viable choice for those seeking high gas mileage along with style, status, and fun.In contrast, the similarly-priced Hummer H2 gets at best 13 mpg, according to dealers.
A Cadillac Escalade sports utility vehicle achieves only 18 mpg on the highway per the EPA.
Even the 4Runner SUV by Toyota -- a company often associated in the minds of the public with good fuel economy -- is rated at just 22 mpg for a two-wheel drive, six-cylinder base model. But wait -- are we not comparing apples and oranges here?
A sports car versus an SUV?
These vehicles are purchased for entirely different purposes, right?
The comparison is not as far-fetched as it might initially seem,...
